Opioids and Urinary Tract Infections
Studies show that opioid therapy may cause urine retention, a condition in which you are unable to empty the bladder during urination. Over time, urine retention can lead to a Urinary Tract Infection, a common and potentially dangerous infection, especially for immune-compromised patients or those undergoing chemotherapy. Furthermore, opioid therapy can mask the common symptoms of a UTI, making diagnosis challenging.
